Dear Husband...

Husband,

Admist the silences that often (too often) stretch long between us,
love lives here.

Despite the foolish, selfish words we hurl, that hang heavy on the air (too often)
love lives here.

Even in the moments of indecision and miscommunication (of which there are many)
love lives here.

For every long hour that takes you from us, I know that you work them for us, so that we,
and love can live here.

Every meal prepared, every bed made, every floor swept, I do here,
in the place where love lives.

Thank you for all of it.

Sometimes I forget to say that. Thank you. Sometimes, I don't forget and still don't say it.

I remember to nurture the children we've made and remember to snuggle them close and be in the moment with them.

I remember to water and nurture the flowers we planted and to fling open the doors to the house you work so hard to give us.

But sometimes I forget to nurture you and to snuggle you close and be in the moment with you.

I forget to water and nurture the love that we planted and to fling open the door of my heart, the one you work so hard to hold.

Today, I want you to know that I didn't forget...

Being silly, in the moment...

Love lives here.

And where there is love....there is hope.

Wife

P.S. On your way home, can you pick up some bananas? I forgot.

  1. You are awesome. I'll bet my husband wishes he married you. Because I've been grumpy lately. Bar mitzvah planning sucks it out of you, and sometimes I have very little left at the end of the day. But the things you say are true.

    Also, about the bananas. ;-)

    1. Alas, I was a far better girlfriend than I am a wife. But I have hope for me...for us.

      Funny about the bananas, eh?

And we always need bananas, too. :)

  3. Bananas and milk - mental blocks for me even when they're the things I've gone the store for in the first place. I get distracted in the vegetable section...

  4. Bananas, because I would be bananas without my husband. Or nuts, I'd be nuts too. (Maybe my grocery list is all the things I'd be without my family??) Great post!
